What players say

At the table

Exalted tables describe bombastic, powerful characters in a setting they love. Reports cover 1e, 2e, 3e and Essence. Opinion splits mostly on how much crunch the rules bring and whether that pays off over a long campaign.

Which version of Exalted should I try?

Players who ran Exalted describe bombastic, powerful characters in a setting they love. Opinion splits on the system: 3e is called heavy crunch that some enjoy and others find a slog, while Essence (the simplified version, counted here as Exalted) and 1e get warmer reports. The Godbound recommendation was ignored. 11 firsthand · 24 comments

Sell me on/off Exalted Essence

The few people who have actually played Essence describe an accessible, streamlined Exalted that works well for new players, mixed-Exalt groups and con games. Longer campaigns are the weak point, because each Exalt type feels less distinct, and the Charm system and setting lore still take effort to learn. Most of the thread is general explanation of Exalted for a newcomer or discussion of the setting's orientalism, not table reports. 5 firsthand · 28 comments

Games in a similar vibe to Exalted

The thread is mostly about alternative systems such as Godbound, L5R, Nobilis and Exalted hacks. The few commenters who actually played Exalted (1e, 2e, 3e and Essence) say they disliked every edition's rules, though they still value the setting. The reports are brief and give no detailed play stories. 4 firsthand · 40 comments

Exalted 2e alternative but with same "duelling titans" feel

The only firsthand report of Exalted 2e is the OP's five-year homebrew campaign. They loved the exploding dice, intimacies, virtues and the sense of power, but long-term advancement has made play slow and unwieldy. The rest of the thread recommends other games (Godbound, Essence, Scion, SWADE, Cortex), which are ignored here. 1 firsthand · 12 comments
