What players say

At the table

Players mostly describe Ironsworn as a solo or co-op game. A smaller number run it with a GM, and the longest report is a guided campaign of 114 sessions over four years. Reports lean positive, but one duo campaign left its GM unconvinced. Some threads also cover Starforged, so a few reports may not be about Ironsworn alone.

Weekly RPG Discussion: Ironsworn, August, Week 4

Players who ran or played Ironsworn solo, co-op and with a GM describe a flexible, fail-forward game that mostly runs itself and holds up over long play. The longest report is a 4-year, 114-session guided campaign nearing its end, and the complaints are small: coarse stats, combat that is hard to narrate, and a heavy demand on imagination. 11 firsthand · 47 comments

Ironsworn: Digital or Physical?

The thread is about format (physical books vs. apps/PDF), not table experience, so reports are brief and mostly positive. Players enjoy Ironsworn solo in both analog and digital forms, with only practical complaints about book handling and missing asset data. 8 firsthand · 22 comments

What are your thoughts about Ironsworn and Starforged?

Players who ran Ironsworn report that it runs smoothly and keeps improvisation easy in solo, co-op and guided play, and several call it a favorite. The problems are a weak fit for traditional GM-plus-players tables, poor scaling past about four players, and a low-stat Journey pain point. Much of the thread is about Starforged, which I ignored, and several remaining reports don't say which of the two games they mean. 5 firsthand · 26 comments

Best system for the Witcher that isn't the official system or Ironsworn.

The thread is almost entirely about alternatives to Ironsworn for running Witcher-style fantasy. The only firsthand Ironsworn report is the original poster's duo campaign with his girlfriend, which he finds unconvincing because he and his group dislike narrative-driven systems. 1 firsthand · 41 comments
